SALLY A. BARTHEL
Sally Ann Barthel, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at her home in Marysville. She was born Friday, Aug. 13, 1954, in Harrisburg to the late Lee E. Sr. and Virginia S. (Motter) Barthel.
Surviving are two children, Jeffery A. Barthel Sr., married to Christina, of Newport and Candy M. Smith of Marysville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two siblings, Lee E. Barthel Jr. of Marysville and Becky Barthel-Maiden of Millersburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul C. Barthel Sr.
Interment was in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville.

JACK R. RICHARD SR.
Jack R. Richard Sr., 85, of Newport passed away at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1939, to Paul L. and R. Gladys (Miller) Richard.
He led a life marked by devotion to faith and family, teaching and community engagement. A longtime member of Hilltop Christian Church, he cherished Sundays spent in worship with his church family and enjoyed dining out with fellow members after services.
At Perry Joint High School, he enjoyed playing baseball, being the quarterback for the football team, playing the drums and acting in the high school play. He graduated valedictorian. He continued his education at Shippensburg University and earned a master’s degree from Temple University. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as a science teacher and baseball coach at Greenwood High School, where he was known for his engaging storytelling and adventurous spelunking trips with students. During summers, he painted homes in Perry County and after retirement worked as a land surveyor and delivered prescriptions for the Medicine Shoppe, Newport.
He was a founding member of the Perry County Archers. He enjoyed the tranquility of hunting in the great outdoors and especially cherished his hunting trips to West Virginia, Clinton County and Forksville Archery Festival.
He also was active with The Perry Historians and Oliver Grange. He was a 50-year member of Newport-Tennis Lodge 381 and Newport Royal Arch Chapter 238. He enjoyed bowling, playing ice hockey and golfing.
His creativity shone through in his paintings, which beautifully captured his favorite country landscapes and wildlife. His witty humor and kind spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He was the widower of Neva Gantt Richard, his high school sweetheart with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are two children, Katie Calderone (Tony) of Lancaster and Jack Richard Jr. (Karen) of Elliottsburg; three brothers, Stanley D. of Landisburg, Paul L. Jr. of Newport and Kenneth W. of Greenlane; a sister, Janet G. Slusser of Landisburg; five grandchildren, Eliza, Bella, Sophia, Nick and Frank; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Jonah.
A service was held Sept. 14 in Hilltop Christian Church, Newport, with pastor Jim Penica officiating. Burial was in Wila Cemetery.

ROBERT G. SHIPP JR.
Robert G. “Gary” Shipp Jr., 81, of Millerstown PA, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2024.
He was born on March 12, 1943, in Harrisburg to Robert G. Shipp and Jean Catherine Yontz of Camp Hill.
He was a renowned educator, sports and community leader. During his 36 years with the Greenwood School District, he served as the school’s athletic director, assistant to the principal, and teacher. His passion was sports, serving as the girls’ varsity coach for basketball, softball and cheerleading. In addition to school responsibilities, he was active with District III PIAA, Tri-Valley Athletic Association, and started Wildcat Basketball Camp, the Juniata Valley AAU, and Millerstown Community Soccer.
When not at a high school sporting event, he also was known across the sprint car dirt racing community where he served as Port Royal Speedway race promotor and director, along with his “Racing Around” column in the Lewistown Sentinel, plus voting member of a national driver ranking poll.
He was a graduate of Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh and Shippensburg University where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees in education.
He enjoyed sports, cherished attending his sons’ sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren and dogs.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Rose Ann Shipp; three sons, Dr. Robert G. Shipp III and his wife Nicole of Millerstown, William M. Shipp and his wife Marina of Royersford, Pa., and Todd C. Shipp and his wife Jillian of Hummelstown; and six grandchildren, Aiden, Dylan, Tyler, Kathryn, Cooper and Cora.
Interment was in Millerstown Riverview Cemetery.

JOHN T. DELANCEY
John T. Delancey of Newport passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024.
He was born Dec. 12, 1931, to John E. and Edna Jane (Wilson) Delancey.
He was a graduate of Millerstown High School; employed and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry; enjoyed farming, gardening and attending the animals he raised; and was a snowbird and spent time in Florida, where he enjoyed fishing, yard sales and time with the neighbors.
Surviving are two sons, John T. Delancey Jr. (Donna) of Millerstown and David E. Delancey (Sharon) of Millerstown; a daughter, Winifred M. Campbell of Newport; a brother, Boyd Delancey (Shirley) of Millerstown; two sisters, Audrey Ehrenzeller of McAlisterville and Jenny Blessing of Camp Hill; and six grandchildren, Marcia, Mark, Jaclyn, Clay, Zane and Jane; and five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Bethany, Rachel, Hazel and Shiloh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Aucker) Delancey of Liverpool; a daughter, Debra K. Wright of Newport; and a brother, Edwin Delancey of Newport.

MARK E. BAILEY
Mark E. Bailey, 67, of Enola passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born in Elko, Nev., on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1956, to the late Wesley A. and Priscilla J. (Garnsey) Bailey.
Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Cindy J. (Berkheimer) Bailey; a daughter, Amanda J. (Bailey) Walk; two grandchildren, Connor and Elliot Walk of Enola; two brothers, Jud Bailey and Jay Bailey (LiseAnn); three sisters, Mary Krouch (Karl), Connie Werner (Tom) and Liz Jenner; three sisters-in-law, Wendie Kegg (Terry), Kathy Bilger (Greg) and Tammy Erickson (Stan); a brother-in-law, William Lenig (Tina); and many nieces and nephews and caring friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Blaine E. Bailey, and two sisters-in-law, Vicki Berkheimer and Sherry Berkheimer.
His employment career included working as a warehouse supervisor for Kinney Shoe Corp. for more than 20 years. His longest employment was with Associated Products, from which he retired in 2022. He had many lasting friendships with his co-workers. He was a friend to everyone. He enjoyed watching sci-fi, the History Channel and “Swamp People.” He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed making crafts, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandsons.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Summerdale Centennial Park, 400 First St., Summerdale.

DR. ADAM T. WILLIAMS
Dr. Adam T. Williams, 47, of Landisburg went to be with His Lord peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, after a four-year-long courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the liver bile ducts.
He was born Feb. 11, 1977, in Harrisburg to Edward E. “Ted” and Ronda E. Williams.
In addition to his father, Ted (Melinda); surviving are his caring wife of 22 years, Shree L. Williams; three sons, Noah, Aiden and Gavin, at home; a sister, Venessa A. Schofield (Frank) of Hershey, a brother-in-law, Blake E. Stone (Katie) of Biglerville; sister-in-law, Jill A. Mabe (Ray) of Ridgeway, Va.; and many nieces and nephews who enjoyed his kind spirit and sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ronda, and a brother, Michael T. Williams.
Growing up, he was active in 4-H and served as a volunteer fireman with the New Bloomfield Fire Company. He was a 1995 graduate of West Perry High School, where he proudly started as center for the varsity football team, wearing number 74. After attending Word of Life Bible Institute, he achieved bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Liberty University. He furthered his education by attending Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 2020 with a doctorate in educational ministries. He began as associate and youth pastor at Church of the Living Christ, Loysville, in 1999. Over the 17 years he served in the position, he impacted many in the congregation, encouraging them in their walk with the Lord. In 2017, he accepted a position at Mountain View Community Church in Frederick, Md., as family and care pastor. He was a great listener, role model and leader in the church. He was blessed to spend the last several years traveling and making memories with friends and family, while taking up hobbies of beekeeping, tapping maple syrup, and barbecuing meat in his custom-made smoker.
A service was held Sept. 14 in Church of the Living Christ. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family thanks Dr. Wilson Jackson, Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, as well as the doctors, nurses and medical staff at Jackson Seigelbaum Gastroenterology, Johns Hopkins Oncology, and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

CHRISTINE H. FEGAN
Christine Henrietta Fegan, 76, of Marysville passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024.
She was born in Teaneck, N.J., to the late Daniel and Inez (Rossi) Bedford. She had called Marysville home for the past 50 years.
She dedicated more than two decades of her life to a leadership role in human resources at the Carlisle Army Barracks, where she was respected and admired for her professionalism and compassion.
She was a devout member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Marysville, and an active volunteer in her community, generously giving her time through the Marysville-Rye Lions Club for several years.
She took delight in traveling with her husband. She cherished her summer evenings, relaxing and chatting by the pool and the companionship of her pets. Her passion for cooking, especially her homemade Italian meals, was a gift passed down from her mother and grandmother, Josephine Rossi, and it brought her family together, creating lasting memories. Her legacy of love, kindness and joy will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered as a selfless giver whose unconditional love and high-spirited nature brought joy to all who knew her.
Surviving are her loving husband, George; two sons, Scott and Donald; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie and Daneen; a brother, Steve; and three cherished grandchildren, Alex, Sara, and Connor.

Harvey Arthur Swab, 94, of Mechanicsburg died at home on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024.
He was born on Friday, April 25, 1930, in Elliottsburg to Charles Groover Swab and Anna Myrhlle (Beard) Swab.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue (Swab) Boose; a brother, Charles F. Swab; and a sister, Lillian G. (Swab) Moore.
Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Maxine (Colyer) Swab; two children, Heath Swab of Boiling Springs and Shawn Swab and his wife, Michele, of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren, Ray E. Boose, Jeremy S. Boose, Cameron J. Swab, Casey S. Swab, Alexandra C. Buch, Courtney A. Buch and Delaney L. Buch; a brother, Robert L. Swab and his wife, Sandra, of Millerstown; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He graduated in 1948 from Ickesburg High School; served his country proudly in the Army; retired from Leader Nursing Home after many years of service working as a maintenance director; attended Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill; loved the outdoors, especially loved gardening, hunting and his cabin. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and never missed a game. He worked as a Little League coach and ran the Monroe Twp. Baseball Association. He was known as a handyman and loved to fix things. He was dedicated to his wife and family and was always there for them. He will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have been in his life.
Harvey’s family will be remembering his life privately. Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

JASON G. MANN
Jason G. Mann, 36, of Elliottsburg went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1988, in Washington, D.C., to Charline (Baker) Williams of Elliottsburg.
He was a 2006 graduate of Golden Gate High School, Naples, Fla. He did not have an easy life, enduring chronic medical conditions that rendered him disabled. Despite his ailments, he was a very caring, loving and tender man. As an introvert, he spent much of his time engaged in his love for online gaming. He had many friends and acquaintances he met through gaming, including a special friend, Kristopher Wiemann. Another special friend who he cared for deeply was Tyra Boisvert. He enjoyed rock ‘n’ roll music, movies and animals. He held a special place in his heart for black cats and red roses. Adopting a black cat or planting a single red rose in his honor would be comforting to his family.
In addition to his mother and her husband Allen Williams, surviving are a sister, Amanda C. Mann of Florida; and three nephews, Timothy Robert Ciciora Jr., Tyler Michael Ciciora and Michael Paul Ramirez Jr.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Lee Albert Baker and Ledia J. Russ, and paternal grandparents, Raymond A. Mann and Frances Knight.

JERAMY L. NEARHOOD
Jeramy Lee Nearhood, 40, of Center Square Road, Blain, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at his home.
He was born March 25, 1984, in Carlisle, to Rick and Betty (Kline) Nearhood.
He was a very caring man who put the needs of others before his own. He demonstrated that by his long commitment to EMT efforts throughout the central Pennsylvania region. As an EMT, he touched many lives over the many years of his service. He belonged to many EMS organizations. He was a 911 dispatcher for Perry County Control (fire, police and EMS). He was a teacher at HACC where he taught CPR and EMS classes. He also taught CPR across Central Pennsylvania and surrounding states. He was a volunteer member of the Blain Fire Police. He also was an ordained minister and performed several weddings and funerals in Perry County and surrounding areas.
Although he was a private person, he could light up a room by his presence. He owned several businesses, Mobile Motor Medix and Health and Safety Solutions. He was a distinguished, honor graduate of West Perry High School, class of 2002. He was a CNA at Perry Village.
He also was very creative. He painted, made jewelry, enjoyed his vehicles and furry friends which were children to him.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his maternal grandmother, Mary Jane (Myers) Nearhood; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and furry kids, two cats that he adored and loved with all his heart, Baby Grismo and Cinderella.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James E. Nearhood Sr., and maternal grandparents, Hannah and Herman Kline.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, in Manassa Community Baptist Church, 70 Back Hollow Road, Blain, with pastor Richard Black officiating. A visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m.

FRANKLIN R. HOFFMAN
Franklin R. Hoffman of New Bloomfield, 91, was found deceased in his home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1932, at home to Ellwood H. and Zella M. Burkey Hoffman of Port Trevorton.
He was a devoted husband, father,and grandfather.
He left high school to serve his country in the Army as a private from 1953 to 1954. While serving in Korea, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. He left the military due to injuries sustained in Korea. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked as a body technician for Sunderland Chevrolet, Lemoyne, for 32 years before changing employers to L.B. Smith Ford, from which he retired in 1990. He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Landisburg, and maintained life membership at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7463, New Bloomfield. He was described by his family as funny and quite the jokester, generous, outspoken, loved and protective of his family, with a strong conviction to always do “the right thing.”
Surviving are four children, Cynthia M. Lauver (Joe) of New Bloomfield, Paul H. Hoffman (Karen) of New Cumberland, Darlene E. Clouser (Robert) and Richard E. Hoffman (Beth), both of New Bloomfield; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Harvey Hoffman of Camp Hill.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Florence E. (Swartz) Hoffman, who died in 2023; a great-grandson, Gage Lauver, who died in 2021; and seven siblings, Bertha Mullen, Charlotte Kisner, Marlin Hoffman, Elwood Hoffman, John Hoffman, Donald Hoffman and Wayne Hoffman.
A service was held Sept. 21 in Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Bill Pipp officiating.
Interment, with military honors, was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Landisburg.

HARRY R. FULLER
Harry R. Fuller, 87, of Elliottsburg passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024.
He was born Dec. 15, 1936, at home to Samuel R. and Ruthann (Campbell) Fuller of Ickesburg.
He graduated in 1954 from Green Park Union and continued his education at Shippensburg University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1958. After college, he returned to Perry County to teach math for the next two years, when he was drafted for service in the Vietnam War. He proudly served in the Army from 1962 to 1964 as a personnel specialist. While in the service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter (M-1 Rifle) award. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked 28 years full-time for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission and 25 years part-time at Sears Credit Central. He retired from both jobs in 1997.
He was a benefactor member of the National Rifle Association. He was passionate about hunting and gunsmithing. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed family gatherings. He also volunteered to assist seniors with their annual income tax filings.
Surviving are three children, Michael E. Fuller (Laura) of Linglestown, Barbara G. Mummert and Kathleen D. Davis, both of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl E. Fuller (Judith) of Blain; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Emelecia (Velasquez) Fuller, who died in 1994, and his second wife, Jane Klinger Fuller, who died in 2010.
A graveside service was held in Buffalo Cemetery with the Rev. Elaine A. Moyer officiating.

CARL W. PARSON
Carl Walter “Popeye” Parson, 84, of Honey Grove entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Blain to Russell C. and Evelyn (Burd) Parson.
He graduated from Orbisonia Area High School in 1959. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war, honorably discharged in 1965.
Following military service, he began his career as a sewing machine mechanic and served at numerous sewing factories until his retirement. He then drove a van, transporting school children and acquired many young friends over a period of 20 years. He also enjoyed carpentry and could do plumbing and electrical work, along with continuing to work on sewing machines.
He was known for his ability in throwing horseshoes. He also enjoyed hunting and taking his three-legged friend, Rusty, and his wife on his side-by-side and mower.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary (Henry) Parson; a son, Joe A. Parson of Honey Grove; his faithful three-legged companion, Rusty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth H. Towsey and his twin, Catherine Wyant.
A service was held Sept. 18 in Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, Spring Run, with pastor Caleb Burd officiating. Interment was in East Waterford Cemetery.

WILLIAM M. MCCALL, M.D.
William M. McCall, M.D., 87, of Lower Paxton Twp. and Millerstown passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Shamokin to William F. and Margaret M. (Coyne) McCall.
A respected obstetrician-gynecologist, his career spanned four decades, leaving an enduring legacy in the greater Harrisburg community. He founded McCall, Banogon, Hawn and Associates (now Women First Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists) in 1968. He practiced faithfully, and exclusively, at Harrisburg Hospital from 1968 until his retirement in 2001. Over the years, his dedication demonstrated toward his patients and colleagues earned him tremendous professional and personal respect.
A graduate of Mt. Saint Mary’s University, he earned a medical degree from New York Medical College and served his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology in New York. From 1966 to 1968, he served as a captain in the Army and was stationed at the Army Hospital at Fort Polk, La. Following discharge from active duty, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve for an additional three years.
He was an avid outdoorsman who found great peace and relaxation when at his cabin in Perry County. He enjoyed hunting and his memberships in the West Shore Sportsmen’s Association and the Twin Cedars Gun Club. He also enjoyed the beach at the Outer Banks and time spent fishing and crabbing. While dedicated to his practice, his foremost priority was the care and well-being of his family. He considered the time they spent together was precious and he strove to make it memorable.
Surviving are his loving wife of more than 65 years, Elizabeth A. (Halgash) McCall; three daughters, Lisa (Jim) McLaughlin, Lori McCall-Forester (Rich) and Linda (George) Sansoni, all of Harrisburg; a son, William M. (Jessica) McCall II of Millerstown; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara Sansoni.
A celebration of his life was held Sept. 20 in Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Leo M. Goodman III officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Sara E. Miller, 95, of New Bloomfield passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at Transitions Healthcare, Duncannon.
She was born April 5, 1929, in Newport to Lloyd and Alice (Range) Gantt.
She was a graduate of Juniata College and a retired school teacher after 30 years in the West Perry School District. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, New Bloomfield.
Surviving are her husband, J. Bruce Miller; three children, Margaret Ann Thomas (Michael), Mary Lee Groff (Charles) and Nelson Lloyd Miller; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

SHIRLEY M. BARKLEY
Shirley M. Barkley, 83, of Newport passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at The Manor at Perry Village, New Bloomfield.
She was born July 30, 1941, to Richard Sr. and Elsie (Pressley) Sharar.
She was a member of the Newport VFW and Millerstown Moose. She enjoyed buying lottery tickets and her flowers. Her greatest joy was her dog and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, John Barkley; two sons, Greg A. Ebersole (Karen) and Richard E. Ebersole; a daughter, Terri L Fosselman (Joe); two brothers, Robert and Vince Sharar; a sister, Kathy Bucher; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Franklin Ebersole Jr., Robert L. Ebersole and Steven Ebersole; four brothers, Richard Sharar Jr., Ronald “Square” Sharar, Edward Sharar and Donald Sharar; and a sister, Florence Seiders.

Martha V. “Martie” Little, 89, of Shermans Dale passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in Transitions Healthcare Allens Cove, Duncannon.
She was born May 28, 1935, in Carroll Twp. at the Brownawell Homestead near Shermans Dale to Raymond F. and Mary (Hummel) Brownawell.
She was a 1953 graduate of Perry Joint High School and a retired federal employee of the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg, with 30 years of service. She worked briefly at C.H. Masland & Sons, Inc. and the Perry County Times, New Bloomfield.
She enjoyed flea markets and public sales, had a love for country and bluegrass music, especially the banjo. She was a member of Jehovah Witness Congregation of Mechanicsburg.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carole Stuck (2008); two brothers, Ronald C. Brownawell (2010) and Raymond L. Brownawell (2014); and two sons, Jeffrey L. Kirkpatrick (1999) and Dennis Kirkpatrick (2020).
Surviving are four children, Cindy Houseman, Sherry Sheffer and partner Pete Spizzirri, David and Tammy Kirkpatrick, Raymond and Laurie Kirkpatrick, all of Shermans Dale; four granddaughters, Michelle Draucker, Melissa Bronstetter, Brooke Haas and Randi Kirkpatrick.

RONALD E. DILLMAN
Ronald E. Dillman, 74, of Loysville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024.
Known by many as “Mr. Fix It,” he was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Carlisle to the late Frank Jacob and Margaret Isabelle (Reisinger) Dillman.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Known for his hard work and generosity, he always prioritized spending quality time with his family.
He graduated in 1967 from West Perry High School and continued his education at Harrisburg Area Community College where he studied drafting. He was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church, Loysville. He honed his skills as a builder by working for Paul Reisinger Construction, eventually using that expertise to build a home for his family. From there, he was employed by Rite Aid Corporation where he held positions in the carpenter shop, and retired from the position of Fixture Distribution Center logistics manager in 2014 after more than 40 years of service. He also owned his own business, R.D. Manufacturing and Repair, a metal fabrication business.
He always had a passion for engines and motors and things that move, including a Ford Galaxy “drag” car in his teen years, his Ford Mustang “family car,” motorcycles, four-wheelers and Harley Davidsons. A lifelong motorsports enthusiast, he instilled his love for the sport in his son, Travis. From go-karts to legend cars and dirt late models, he was a dedicated father, traveling the country to support his son for 15 years.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Judith Marie (Cornman) Dillman; three children, Denise M. Sheffield (Todd) of Lewisberry, Dawn R. Wilson (James) of New Cumberland and Travis E. Dillman (Erin) of New Germantown; and seven grandchildren, Maleah, Zoe, Natasha, Macy, Jordan, Allison and Cole.
A service was held Sept. 17 in his church with the Rev. David S. Bowerman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

RONALD E. RICE
Ronald Eugene Rice, 78, of Elliottsburg died at his home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.
He was born in Harrisburg on June 17, 1946, to the late James E. and Beatrice M. (Weibley) Rice.
He graduated in 1965 from West Perry High School. He was immediately drafted into service in the Army. He proudly served his country from 1965 to 1967 in Vietnam and earned the Vietnam Service Medal/Drivers Badge, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon return to civilian life, he worked at Maslands (where he met his beautiful wife) and AMP, Inc. He retired from Purina in 2012 after more than 30 years of employment.
He was an antique tractor enthusiast. He would show his tractors at the Blain Heritage Days, Old Iron Days and Ickesburg Fall Fest. He had an old Ford Model T that he called “The Gitney.” It always was a crowd-pleaser. He enjoyed the company of the other tractor enthusiasts. If any family members would go to the shows, he would enlist them to drive one of his tractors in the parades. When he was young, he built garden tractor carts and would take family members exploring on the ridge and powerline logging roads near his home. He and his wife had a pair of pet white ducks and he also had a dog named “Boy.” He built three garages on his property and was talented in many ways with home repairs. He also was an inventor. He would tinker with things to make them work better and more efficiently. One invention was a bird feeder attached to a chain that went around a pulley, with the other end attached to a jug of bird seed. When he wanted to add to the feeder he’d pull the chain, which would drop the jug of feed. He had many such little inventions around his home.
Surviving are five stepchildren, Rosalie Lowe and Linda Carbaugh, both of Loysville, Liz Shanafelter and Sherry Jumper, both of Shermans Dale, and Tim Kiner of Newport; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Nancy Naylor of Chambersburg, Betty Radle of Landisburg, Linda Simmons (Michael) of Etters and George Rice of Elliottsburg.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Anna M. (Bricker) Rice, who died in 2022.
A celebration of his life was held Sept. 30 in New Life Assembly of God, 397 Bridgeport Road, Landisburg, with pastor Mike Shuff officiating. Interment was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Anna F. Roush, 84, of Liverpool entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at Richfield Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1940, in Mifflinburg to Marlin Sr. and Hettie (Beaver) Mitchell.
She was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School. She was a loving wife and homemaker for her family. She was a member of Liverpool Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobbies included playing bingo, sewing, macrame, watching TV, playing in a pinochle club in Liverpool, delivering Meals on Wheels and, in earlier years, attending dirt track racing. She enjoyed traveling, cruising, attending her great-grandson Austin’s go-kart racing and spending time with her husband, family and friends at the family cabin in Thousand Islands, Canada.
She was the widow of Stanley Roush, who died April 7, 2009, and to whom she was married 51 years.
Surviving are three sons, Jeffery Roush and his wife Patty, Jerry Roush and his fiance’ Betty Brosius, and Jans Roush and his wife Deb; five grandchildren, Bryan Roush and his wife Jessica, Brandon Roush and his wife Rochelle, Jeremy Roush and his wife Stacy, Hope Coombs and her husband Kenny, and Heather Roush and her husband Bryant; 11 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Haylee, Austin Roush and his wife Morgan, Gracie, Abbie, Caleb, Judah, Carson, Lily, Landon, and Adelyn; a great-great-grandson, Kasen; nephew, Jason Mitchell and his wife Pam; and niece, Reva Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Mitchell, and a brother, Marlin “Bud” Mitchell Jr.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 in George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool.

Stanley G. Humbert, 67, of Marysville passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 15t, 2024, at his home in Rye Twp.
He was born Friday, Aug. 22, 1957, in Harrisburg to the late John Stanley Humbert and Freda Jane (Bitting) Humbert.
He was a draftsman before driving a school bus for Rohrer to spend more time with his sons. Later, he was the Rye Twp. tax collector for almost two decades and worked maintenance at Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville. He was an active member of many local sportsman clubs and an avid fisherman of both creek and river. He was a loving husband and father, and he loved to share his outdoor passions with family and friends.
He was the widower of Barbaranne B. (Broderick) Humbert, who died Tuesday, May 7, 2019, and to whom he was married more than 35 years.
Surviving are two sons, William Humbert, married to Kacie, of Hedgesville, W. Va., and Richard Humbert of Marysville; a grandson, Lucas Humbert; seven sisters, Rose, married to Larry Mangle, of Liverpool, Mary Luckenbaugh of Shermans Dale, Catherine Shaull of Marysville, Winifred, married to Don Shafer, of Enola, Patricia Miller, Beverly Humbert of Duncannon and Nancy Cook of Marysville; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Herbert Shaull.

DONALD BINGAMAN
Donald “Bing” Bingaman, 90, of Shermans Dale passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.
He was born in 1934 in Sunbury to Warren and Amy Bingaman.
He was known for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and dedication to his family and friends. He could always be found sharing a quiet laugh with his grandchildren or in a friendly conversation with others.
As a child, he took pride in being a Boy Scout and Explorer Scout alongside his brother, Fred. After graduating from Sunbury High School, he served in the Army for four years in Kansas and West Germany before coming home to Sunbury. There, he met and married Carol J. Ervin and together they raised two children, Bruce and Andrew, at their home near Shermans Dale.
He remarried in 1987 following the death of his first wife in 1985, to Cathy L. Stouffer.
He took joy in his work as an auto body technician, mechanic, machinist and, most recently, as local delivery truck driver at the Sunoco fuel terminal in Mechanicsburg, retiring in 2000.
He was an avid gardener and loved working on his own cars, his house and garage. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Cathy, and was fond of their trips to Deep Creek Lake, Md., Canaan Valley, W. Va., and many other destinations. He remained actively involved with his church, Great Hope Baptist Church of Carlisle throughout his adult life, where he shared his faith and love of Jesus with others.
He will be deeply missed, but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to meet him.
Surviving are his wife, Cathy; two sons, Bruce and his wife, Tracy, and Andy and his wife, Diane; four grandchildren, Taylor, Cole, Carolyn and Scarlett; a sister, Jean Neidig; and special sister-in-law, Darlene Kline.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; four brothers, Fred, Arland, Harry and Robert; and two sisters, Mary and Florence.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, in his church, 110 Fern Ave., Carlisle.

KENNETH E. SHUMAKER
Kenneth E. Shumaker, 69, of Landisburg passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024.
He was born on May 29, 1955, in Mechanicsburg to the late Warren R. and Betty G. (Kauffman) Shumaker.
He graduated in 1973 from West Perry High School. He began his career working in maintenance for Frog and Switch Manufacturing, from where he retired in 2020 after providing 47 years of service. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union and Kennedy Valley Church of God, where he served as a deacon. He was very well known as someone who could fix anything mechanical. He repaired small engines, sharpened mower blades, and welded farm machinery as needed.
He was known to bestow the gift of laughter to those around him. If he liked you, he picked on you. He coached and umpired Little League baseball. He loved family gatherings, camping, and was absolutely besotted with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing fixed a crisis like a double-meat ham and cheese sub sandwich from Zeiderelli’s or a motorcycle ride. He was simply one of those great guys.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 50 years, Darlene K. (Kennedy) Shumaker; two children, Amy J. Altland (Tony) of Carlisle and Jason E. Shumaker (Tiffany) of Landisburg; four grandchildren, Kendra, Tyler, Clayton and Sara; four great-grandchildren, Macie, Adlee, Willow and Kinsley; and two brothers, Ronald and David Shumaker.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L.; a sister, Mary J. Clouser; and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Jo Parson, who died in 2021.

Phil Stambaugh, 75, of Duncannon passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at Spruce Manor, Reading.
He was an officer and lifetime member of Duncannon VFW Post 255, regular member of Duncannon American Legion, and member and officer of the Sons of the American Legion, James G. Zimmerman Post 340 , Duncannon.
He enjoyed fishing trips to Ohio, boating in Delaware, and poker nights with his extended family.
Surviving are his caretakers, David Reed and Joanne Sanderson; his handpicked children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Annette Sheibley of Landisburg, Beth Maxine Royer (Dennis) of Carlisle and Ilene Pontius (Andy) of Loysville; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar C. and R. Joyce (Malone) Stambaugh; and three brothers, Kenneth Stambaugh, Willard (Bill) Stambaugh and Blaine Stambaugh.

Susan Glessner, 71, of Duncannon passed Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at her home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1952, in Carlisle to the late Harry F. and Betty Maude (Cavenaugh) Hoerner.
She was a Christian and loved God. She was a caring and thoughtful person who always was willing to help others. Over the years, she loved gardening at her home, raising all types of flowers and plants, and raising shih tzus. Sofia, her present canine companion, provided unconditional love and loyalty.
Surviving are two sons, Jamason and Anthony.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Glessner, on Jan. 25, 2023.
Interment was in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.

TATIANA V. LEITZEL
Tatiana Victoria Leitzel, 35, of Duncannon entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at Penn State Hospital — Hampden, Enola.
She was born on April 12, 1989, the oldest daughter of Joseph and Nancie (Kresge) Leitzel in Duncannon.
She was a naturally gifted videographer/photographer and free spirit from a very young age. At 16, she completed her first feature length film and received the “Highly Successful Award,” despite having only three months to complete her project and limited resources. There was no deadline or obstacle that she couldn’t face and conquer.
She graduated in 2007 from Susquenita High School and created the senior video that was presented at her own baccalaureate ceremony. After graduation, she began working as a pharmacy technician at Rite Aid while further pursuing her passions in the videography and photography world. She decided to change career paths in 2018 and started a new journey as a benefits consultant at Aflac Insurance Company until her passing.
She started her own business, Red Siren Production, in 2013 before going on to create and complete the Duncannon Sesquicentennial DVD celebrating Duncannon’s 150th anniversary. Her ability to move others with her art and capture the true beauty of people and the world around her was unmatched.
During her free time, she loved to travel and immerse herself in Japanese culture. She taught herself how to speak Japanese and became fluent for her travels in 2022. Being a vegan since a young age, she fell in love with Japanese cuisine and would often take her family to restaurants to try out her favorite meals.
England was another place where she felt right at home. She traveled to the United Kingdom twice for the PLAY expo in Manchester, England. She assisted an international team with live-streaming, audio and editing during the entire event.
The only thing she loved more than traveling the world, was being a mother to her 7-year-old son, Greyson. Everything she did, she did for him.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her beloved son, Greyson; a sister, Andreanna “Ande” Leitzel; grandmother, Mary Lou Kresge; and grandfather, Richard Whited.

John A. Henry Jr., 55, of Duncannon passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at UPMC Harrisburg (Front Street), Harrisburg, following a brief yet courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1968, in Harrisburg to the late John A. Sr. and Shirley A. (Brandt) Henry.
He worked as a heavy machine operator, working for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. (formerly Hempt Brothers) for more than 11 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also loved to ride his motorcycle.
Surviving are his wife, Michelle L. (Bosch) Henry of Duncannon; two stepdaughters, Sierra L. Fike of Harrisburg and Laurel M. Fike of Hershey; a stepson, Logan B. Fike of Montoursville; four sisters, Mary L. Henry of Harrisburg, Donna M. Binkley, married to Lloyd, of Harrisburg, Cindy L. Durham, married to Dwight, of Texas and Tammy L. Romberger, married to Jeff, of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends.

Grover A. Haines, 83, of Duncannon went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024.
He was born April 14, 1941, in Newport to Lewis S. and Dollie I. (Murphy) Haines.
He graduated from Newport High School in 1959. His love for driving led him to becoming an ambulance driver in 1963, making him a life member of the Newport Ambulance League. He attended truck driving school and worked for several trucking companies until he finished his career with Lasco Industries, where he achieved one million accident-free miles. Upon retirement, he took a part-time job with Enterprise, where he could continue his love of driving vehicles.
He was a lifelong member of Newport First Church of God, where he held several positions over his life.
He loved attending sporting events to watch his grandson and was well known for yelling “Hip Hip Hooray.”
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Evans) Haines; daughter Laura and son-in-law William Toth; a grandson, Seth L. Toth, with whom he shared a love for country music; three brothers, Carl, Lenus and Donald; a sister, Vera (Asper); and much-loved nieces, nephews and additional family members who make up the Haines family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ralph, Stanley, Harry, Ray and Marlin; and two sisters, Mildred (Dobyns) and Faye (Fry).

Harold “Frog” Spotts, 92, of New Bloomfield died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at home surrounded by his wife, family and his favorite dog, Buddy.
He was born on July 26, 1932, in Carroll Twp. to Elmer and Carrie (Rambo) Spotts.
He graduated with the class of 1949 from New Bloomfield High School and worked as a shopkeeper at Wentzel’s Mill, Newport, for several years and then as a tax assessor for Perry County. He also served his country as a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
He was an active, lifetime member of the New Bloomfield Fire Company for 74 years. Over the course of his membership, he served as fire company president, secretary, treasurer, assistant chief and driver, along with many other positions. He also was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Central Perry Senior Center, New Bloomfield Sportsman Association, and was a lifetime member of Newport Fire Company.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his dog “Buddy,” playing cards, hunting, attending auctions, and yard sales. He also enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed trips across the U.S. and to Great Britian.
Surviving are his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Janet (Mutzabaugh) Spotts; a sister, Arlene (Max) Kretzing of Shermans Dale; a brother, Kelvin (Evelyn) Spotts of New Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna (Samuel) Nulton.
A service was held Sept. 13 in his church with the Rev. George Martz officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

He was born April 7, 1939, in Newport.
He was retired from Cromalloy and was an Army veteran and a member of Newport American Legion and Perry and Tawanka Saddle Clubs.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Rice) Roush; two sons, David and Keith Roush; four grandchildren, Dalton, Emily, Rebecca and Daniel Roush; and two great-grandchildren, Cash and Laurel.

RALPH C. KESSLER
Ralph C. Kessler, 74, of Blain went into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.
He was born at home on Oct. 3, 1949, to the late Della I. Kessler of Blain.
Although blind most of his life, he graduated in 1972 from West Perry High School. He was very proud of his accomplishments when he victoriously wrestled for Overbrook School of the Blind, and his opponents had their complete vision. He was a member of the Blain Lions Club and Zion United Church of Christ, Blain. He also attended Manassa Community Baptist Church.
He loved country music, dogs and cats, and being comfortable.
Surviving is his companion of 18 years, Kathy Flanagan.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Perma Smith and Wayne Metz.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, in Manassa Community Baptist Church with pastor Richard Black Jr. officiating. Those attending are asked to wear casual clothing — a favorite sports jersey, if possible.

She was born in Harrisburg on July 26, 1952, and was adopted by the late David and Mary Briner at the age of 2.
She graduated from West Perry High School and was a housewife, running a household and raising a family.

She was born Wednesday, July 13, 1960, in Harrisburg to Louise I. (Hockenberry) Sturgeon and the late Charles Schimer Sturgeon Sr.
A service was held Sept. 19 in Middle Cove Bible Church, Duncannon.

RANDY W. HAIR
Randy W. Hair, 73, of Shermans Dale, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at UPMC West Shore, Mechanicsburg.
He was born Friday, April 5, 1951, in Carlisle to the late Harry H. and Elsie (Liddick) Hair.
A veteran, he proudly served with the Army during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a superintendent with Reynolds Construction and Mid-State Construction. Among his professional accomplishments, he was awarded a Craftsmanship Award from the Harrisburg Builders Exchange for his work on Hershey’s Chocolate World in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, beekeeping, golfing and spending time with family, friends and his beloved dog. He was a member of the Shermans Dale Lions Club and Carpenters Union Local 431.
Surviving are two children, Jolene T. Bevan of Independence, Ky., and Steven M. Hair, married to Kerry (Lynott), of State College; a brother, Kenneth Hair; three sisters, Jane Zeigler, Patricia Johnson and Wendy Meneses; and three grandchildren, Evelyn, Matthew and Patrick Hair.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ronald, Dennis, Richard, Barry and Michael Hair.
A graveside service, with military honors, was held Sept. 21 in Mount Gilead United Methodist Cemetery, Shermans Dale.

JOHN H. KAPP
John H. Kapp, 97, of Newport passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at The Carolyn House, Harrisburg.
He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Newport to John and Lilly (Haines) Kapp.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees Construction Battalion on Iwo Jima. He concluded his military career by helping to disarm mainland Japan after the Japanese military surrendered. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Bloomfield, and retired from PPL after 43 years of service.
He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He also was an excellent caregiver to his wife, Martha. He enjoyed working on household projects. His most favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch with his wife.
He was the widower of Martha (Marcaccio) Kapp.
Surviving are a son, John H. Kapp Jr. and wife Patty of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Cathy Tomchak of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Allison Janosko and husband Michael; and two great-grandsons, Maddox and Greyson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Kapp, George Kapp, James Edward Kapp and Whitey Shull; and four sisters, Kathryn Quigley, Mary Ellen Shoop, Jeanette Niman and Martha Witmer.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 30 in his church. Burial, with military honors by the Perry County Honor Guard, was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
